Originally those applets were a project for the typography-course at the Fachhochschule, however, they don't have much to do with typography except for that it is letters that move around. It wouldn't matter much if it were pixels or small images.
All those applets consist only of several hundred letters that move according to various simple or complicated formulas. I discovered the "Torus"-formula, by coincidence, I just entered something - so I was quite pleased with the result. :)
The last two applets are interactive, the react to motions and clicks from the mouse.
